This work began on a sunny afternoon in mid-spring 2015, shortly after my husband and I moved into our first home in the United States. As I stood by the window, I saw swallows flying past, instantly bringing back memories of my childhood home, where swallows nested under the eaves. In the front yard garden, the dried iris stems stood quietly in the soil, yet fresh green sprouts had already begun to emerge.
I trimmed away the withered leaves but couldn’t bring myself to discard them. I thought, perhaps I could create something from this garden. Using those dried leaves, a cut-out of a plump swallow, sunlight, and paper, I made my very first cyanotype print. That was the moment I began connecting memory with the present—recognizing that the past cannot be erased, yet I wasn’t fully ready to be absorbed into this new life either.
The ideas of "new home" and "old home" merged in many subtle and profound ways. The blending of meanings, emotions, and patterns of behavior was both challenging and exhilarating. This image gave rise to later series of human silhouettes and group formations—images of movement and migration, of people departing or arriving, some alone, some in flocks. They are all paper cut-outs, and the blue emerges through the cyanotype process, exposed to sunlight.

这件作品创作于2015年春天的一个阳光明媚的下午,那时我和先生刚搬进我们在美国的第一个家。站在窗前,一些燕子掠过天际,让我想起了童年的家——屋檐下也曾有燕子筑巢。
前院的鸢尾花早已枯萎,却仍坚定地站立在土壤中,而它们的中央竟已悄然发出新芽。我剪下那些枯叶,却舍不得丢弃。于是,我决定用这个花园里的素材创作点什么。干枯的鸢尾、剪纸的小胖燕子、阳光与纸张,我制作了人生中第一件蓝晒作品。
那一刻起,我开始尝试将记忆与当下联系起来。旧的记忆无法抹去,而我也尚未准备好完全被新的生活同化。“新家”与“旧家”的概念在很多方面交融在一起。意义、感受和行为方式的混合,既困难,又令人兴奋。
这个图像也启发了我后续关于人物剪影和群体移动的系列作品。我开始描绘迁徙与离散的形象——有独自一人的,也有成群结队的。他们都是剪纸形象,而蓝色则来自于阳光曝晒下的蓝晒印迹。
